Roman Catholic criticism

The Roman Catholic Church argues that the phrase "free union" is misleading. The Catechism of the denomination raises the question of what "union" can mean in the phrase "free union". The expression "free union" includes situations such as concubinage, rejection of marriage as such, or inability to make long-term commitments.[2] According to this Catechism, being in a "free union" is a grave offense against the dignity of marriage.[3]
